Commodity purchase and sale are being conducted. - Mother's Day spending predictions exceed €1 billion.
A recent study shows Germans are planning to spend more on Mother's Day gifts this year. The German Retail Association (HDE) recently conducted a survey that reveals Germans intend to spend a total of 1.03 billion euros on the special day, which is an increase of 5% compared to 2023.
Among the 1,500 respondents ranging from 18 to 69 years old, about one-third of them shared their intention to spend money on Mother's Day. This figure slightly increased by 0.2 points to 31.7%. This survey was conducted by IFH Cologne, a market research institute working for HDE.
While flowers are the most common gift chosen, food, invitations to restaurants, cosmetics, and gift vouchers are also significant choices. The average spending for Germans aged 18 to 69 is 18.40 euros. However, it's worth noting that this average includes the two-thirds of people who don't plan to give a gift, making the average spend around three times higher for those who want to celebrate the occasion and spend more. Mother's Day is traditionally observed in Germany since 1923, and this year, it lands on May 12.
