As many as 13 of the 14 fir trees that were replanted last fall in front of the Bellagio hotel on the Las Vegas Strip have died. The trees replace similar but more mature evergreens that were cut down last fall to make way for the grandstands at the Las Vegas Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The new trees could arrive as early as Monday and will be fully planted next Thursday or Friday, the R-J reported.

All Bellagio trees are expected to be removed each fall for the annual F1 race, which will return to the Las Vegas Strip on November 23, 2024, and potentially eight more Thanksgivings after that weekend.

However, they are now planted in boxes for easier removal.

Shadow move

When MGM released renderings of Bellagio's Fountain Club in November 2022, it became clear that trees along Bellagio's sidewalks would have to be cut down to make room. The Fountain Club is a 3,600-seat grandstand with celebrity chefs, a rooftop terrace and an admission fee of $13,000 per person.

Some of the trees have been there since they were planted in front of the Sand Dunes, the successor to the 1993 Steve Wynn-led Bellagio implosion.

At the time, Travelzork reported that an MGM Resorts spokesperson assured him that the company would "temporarily safely remove the trees in front of the Bellagio Fountains."

Twitter erupted with outrage when the vast majority of trees facing the road were felled and felled overnight.

The trees were replaced with new ones last December. A month later, arborists said they were in good condition, the R-J reported. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly in March.
