Mohegan opens Inspire integrated casino resort in Incheon, South Korea
Mohegan's Inspire is located at Incheon International Airport in South Korea and is scheduled to open later this month.
The project, which has taken several years, is finally about to open. Mohegan, the tribal and commercial gaming entity of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, announced it will open the first phase of Inspire on November 30.
Located adjacent to the main international airport serving the capital Seoul, Inspire will debut with three hotels with 1,275 rooms and 10 restaurants, including a 15,000-seat multi-purpose stadium Michael Jordan's Steak House conference facility, Featuring South Korea's largest banquet hall and an "immersive entertainment street," it is surrounded by 150-meter-long LED displays that decorate the ceiling and walls of the sidewalk.
It is an honor to work closely with the Korean government to make this day possible, and we look forward to Inspire contributing to the local and regional economy by creating local jobs, visitors to the Incheon area, and attracting new businesses both inside and outside the hotel." Mohegan Tribe said Chairman James Gessner.
Mohegan President and CEO Ray Pineault added that the company's debut in South Korea "is not only significant for our growth in global markets, but also provides us with the opportunity to share the heritage and spirit of Mohegan with the world."
There’s more to come
Incheon International Airport announced plans in 2009 to expand airport facilities with a new terminal and integrated resort. After years of delays, the South Korean government in early 2016 selected Mohegan, then still operating as Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, as the preferred developer of the resort and casino.
The project went through multiple designs and reviews, further delaying the resort's realization. The ultimate vision is for a $5 billion investment to be built in multiple phases and over multiple years.
Mohegan said the first phase will involve an investment of $1.6 billion. In addition to the above features, Inspire will also open an entertainment attraction called Splash Bay. The glass-domed structure will initially house a swimming pool, but will later be expanded to include an indoor water park.
Upcoming attractions include Inspire Mall, which is described as a "comprehensive cultural space integrating shopping, dining and entertainment." The facility also features Inspire Wonders, which provide shoppers with a respite to “enjoy the wonders of nature.” The planned "miracles" include miracles of space, movement, light, time, petals, and the mind.
An outdoor nature attraction called Discovery Park is also scheduled to open in the first half of 2024.
Casino to open in 2024
Mohegan Inspire will open a foreign-only casino in "early 2024." The gaming area covers an area of more than 200,000 square meters, including approximately 1,500 slot machines and 250 gaming tables.
In most Asian casinos, gaming tables dominate, while in the United States, slot machines take up most of the floor space. Baccarat is one of the most popular games.
Inspire's most anticipated facility - a private terminal connecting the resort to Incheon International Airport - is expected to open next year.
Inspire is Mohegan’s first project overseas. In addition to the Mohegan Sun integrated resort in Connecticut, the company owns and/or operates casinos in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Nevada, Washington state and Ontario.
