Mississippi's Casino Gaming Hall Resumes Operations Following Multiple-Hour Technical Problem

The bustling Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in Mississippi was forced to close its gaming floor on Monday afternoon when their surveillance cameras mysteriously stopped working. State regulations demand that casinos may not offer gaming without functioning monitoring systems, forcing visitors and players to leave the area, as reported by local TV station WLOX.

Employees quickly responded to the problem, beginning repairs around lunchtime on Monday. Gamblers were finally given permission to return about 5:30 am on Tuesday, with an estimated 75% of the resort's gaming area affected by the setback. The Scarlet Pearl management informed the Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC) about the issue.

Surveillance cameras at casinos are crucial for maintaining safety and upholding casino regulations. Cameras are used to monitor all aspects of gambling and ensure rules are being followed.

Luckily, the fault wasn't due to a power outage, so gaming machines didn't need to be scrutinized before players returned. The MGC confirmed this fact.

Management Statement

On Tuesday, Scarlet Pearl Casino CEO LuAnn Pappas expressed gratitude for customers and staff in a Facebook post, stating, "Despite all the rumors (and there were quite a few), we encountered technical difficulties with our casino surveillance coverage. Therefore, we were obliged to shut down the casino until the coverage could be fully reinstated.”

No cause for the surveillance system breakdown has been shared, and no connection with foul play has been suggested. The casino has remained tight-lipped regarding the revenue loss experienced during the casino shutdown.

The casino's restaurant services and 300-room hotel continued without interruption throughout the ordeal.

The Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort, located in the scenic town of D'Iberville, Mississippi, and near Biloxi, has been in operation since 2015. Occasional technological issues are to be expected in the state's casinos, announced Edward Wong, deputy director of the MGC.
