The stronghold of St. Pauli - Millerntor readies for the Bundesliga action.
The damage to Millerntorstadion might not be extensive and can be fixed promptly. As a result, the U23's final game in the Regionalliga against champions Hannover 96 II, which is scheduled for Sunday (3.30 pm), can proceed as planned here. Starting in August, though, there will be a set of new competitors to contend with at home for the Kiez-Kicker. Some adjustments are ongoing.
Ahead of the Bundesliga, Millerntor Overhaul
Club proprietor Oke Göttlich (48) discusses the changes required for the shift to the Bundesliga: "Camera placements are more important in the first division. We need to provide more camera mounts on the roof for this purpose," he explains. "But there's nothing too challenging for us."
However, the renovation plan for the ballroom on the main stand has temporarily been halted. The European Championships are to blame, as the Millerntor will be taken over by Uefa for nearly six weeks. The stadium will serve as a training venue for various national teams during this time.
Given the European Championships, lawn maintenance is a priority during the summer break to ensure the pitch remains in top condition until the commencement of the Bundesliga (23 to 25 August). There's still uncertainty about whether or not FC St. Pauli will inaugurate their season at Millerntor ahead of the league fixtures.
The stadium's amenities and requirements appear to be sufficient for the Bundesliga. And faithful spectators will be pleased with this news: ticket prices are likely to remain unchanged. There will be no unreasonable hikes for those who've stuck with the club throughout its 2nd division stint.
