Midwest Floodwaters Force Closure of WinnaVegas Casino

WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, IA, has shut down today, June 25th, due to an increased concern for safety amidst the floods sweeping through the Midwest region. As stated by Tom Teesdale, WinnaVegas' General Manager, the well-being of their employees and visitors is their top priority. They express their sympathy to those facing the consequences of the rising flood waters and hope for a swift restoration of the Siouxland area.

At present, WinnaVegas remains unscathed; however, their entrance road has been partially flooded, and officials expect the water levels to keep rising.

According to local news channels KTIV-TV/Sioux City and KCAU-TV/Sioux City, emergency services and local authorities are on-site to assist in evacuating both customers and staff.

Since last Thursday, the area has witnessed up to 18 inches of rain, resulting in widespread flooding that has impacted over 3 million individuals across the Midwest. Regrettably, two lives have been claimed, one of which was an Illinois resident who attempted to bypass a flood barrier in Spencer, IA, causing his vehicle to be swept away by the turbulent Little Sioux River, as reported by KTIV on Monday.

Despite the unexpected closure, WinnaVegas has announced that they will reopen when it's deemed safe to resume operations. The casino, which was opened by the Winnebago Tribe in April 1992, shared this information on their Facebook page.

The WinnaVegas Casino says it will reopen when it’s safe to return.
