A defender is making his way to the European Championship. - Middlestadt's parents swayed to the tune of the election anthem.
Peter Schilling, a musician, (68) presented the European Championship nomination with his hit song "Major Tom," which he played alongside Mittelstädt's iconic goal against the Netherlands (2:1). The former defender was thrilled about it.
Mittelstädt expressed, "It's a great tune. Whenever I hear it, people ask me about it. My parents also recall grooving to this back then. So, it feels a bit unreal for them too."
Having been relegated with his former team Hertha BSC last year, Mittelstädt has since soared high and made his way into the national team.
He admitted, "It wasn't an easy choice to leave my Berlin home. However, looking back, it was the perfect decision and well worth it."
