Celebrating the 200th birthday of Werder - Micoud thanks Kroos in the role of an idol.
Toni Kroos, who's 34 years old, can attest to the impact that the Frenchman had. The 2014 world champ and national team member shared in a previous podcast that the 2003/04 championship team led by coach Thomas Schaaf greatly influenced him, with Johan Micoud being his new role model.
Micoud received an award for being "Le Chef." He was thrilled, saying, "It's a great honor. Toni Kroos plays the kind of soccer I love. He's always involved, dives for the ball, and he's always trying to make something happen. I'm gratified that he considers me his idol."
At Werder's double anniversary: Micoud expresses gratitude to Kroos
Kroos recently sent Micoud a signed shirt. He hoped it would be displayed alongside Micoud's in the "Wuseum" museum at Werder. However, none of Micoud's shirts are currently displayed in the museum. This might not matter to Micoud, who's currently serving as a Euro expert for "L'Equipe" in Paris during the summer championship.
Previously, July 28, 2006 was assumed to be Micoud's unofficial farewell match. During that time, he said goodbye to Bremen fans at a test in Oldenburg shortly before he left for Bordeaux. It's possible that one day he will receive a more significant send-off to end his career.
Micoud: "The idea still lingers in my mind. Many tell me: Why don't you do it? If I do, then it'll be here. But until then, I need to work on my fitness."
