Former first lady grieves - Michelle Obama's mom passes away.
"My mama Marian Robinson was my stability amidst the turbulence, constantly there for me when I needed a helping hand. She served as a staunch foundation for our entire family, and now we're completely shattered knowing she's left us. We'd like to share some musings about her spectacular life:
Once Barrack Obama took office as president, Michelle's mama Marian Robinson (at the time, 71) moved in with 'em and took care of the Obama babes Malia (25 at the time) and Sasha (22). Marian enjoyed experiencing the presidential perks and observed her grandbabies grow up without being under the constant spotlight. To make this happen, she had to forfeit her part-time gig at the bank.
Nicknamed "First Granny," she added a dash of normality to the Obama's chaotic political life. The Boston Globe published one of the rare interviews she'd given. In it, she remarked in a gravelly voice, "The White House feels like a museum. How the heck do you sleep in a museum?"
In 2019, Barack Obama talked about his mama-in-law, saying, "I've always admired her steadfast nature, her viewpoint, and how a clever saying of hers reverberates through the room." On X, the son-in-law shared his thoughts about her passing, "Marian Robinson will always be unique. As we mourn, we'll draw inspiration from the magnificent gift of her life. And we'll endeavor to emulate her for the rest of our lives."
