The Lauda twins were merely 9 years old when their renowned father passed away. - Mia closely resembles Niki in appearance.

It's been five years since the tragic passing of Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda, who succumbed to complications following a lung transplant on May 20, 2019. Lauda, a three-time world champion, leaves behind a legacy in the world of racing and a loving family, consisting of his long-time partner Marlene (68), two grown-up sons, and a recent relationship with a new partner.

Despite keeping them out of the limelight, Lauda's children, Mia and Max, aged 14, are undeniably connected to their father. In a recent interview with "Kronenzeitung," Birgit Lauda, Niki's widow, shared her insights on the striking similarities between her children and their deceased father.

Since 2004, Birgit Wetzinger, from 2008 Birgit Lauda, was the woman at Niki's side. She even donated a kidney to him in 2005

"They both look so much like him," she asserted. "Mia is the spitting image of Niki. She has his blonde hair, and there's no mistaking it. Max, on the other hand, takes after my side of the family, with his dark hair. He was almost snow-white as a child, but he grew a little darker as he got older."

Occasionally, as here in Spielberg in 2017, Niki brought his family to the Formula 1 paddock

The Lauda children currently attend an international school in Vienna, where their identity remains anonymous. Birgit Lauda explains, "They're exposed to multiple cultures there, and their nationality doesn't set them apart. So, they're free from any unwanted attention."

However, the racing gene still runs strong within the Lauda household. Birgit adds, "We're proud to be Laudas. When Formula 1 is on, and we hear the engines roar, we can't help but crank up the volume, no matter where we are."

The other part of his family: Lauda in the early 1980s with Marlene (married from 1976 to 1991), with whom he had a close relationship until his death, and his two sons Lukas (left) and Mathias

Naturally, Niki introduced his children to motorsports from a young age. "We used to take them to a go-kart track in Vienna, and they were both driving before they could even speak in full sentences. As they grew, they continued to enjoy racing as a hobby, but not as something they're compelled to pursue professionally."
