Mexico City can be reached with the longest commercial passenger flight from China.

The flight spans approximately 14,147 km (8,790 miles) in each direction.

The first flight will take off from the bustling southern city of Shenzhen in China on May 11, lasting a straight 16 hours to reach Mexico City, as per China Southern Airlines. This flight will happen every Tuesday and Saturday.

The return journey is expected to take a tad longer, approximately 21 hours and 20 minutes. The flight will commence its service on Wednesdays and Sundays from May 12.

The path to China features a brief stopover at Tijuana, where passengers must stay on the plane.

The roundtrip journey is identified using the flight code CZ8031/2 and will be served by Airbus A350 aircraft, as reported by SZ News, a state-sponsored news outlet from Shenzhen.

This new route surpasses China Southern Airlines’ previous longest nonstop flight, Guangzhou to New York, which stretches to 12,871 kilometers, as the longest flight to leave from a Chinese airport.

Presently, the 15,332 km Singapore to New York route run by Singapore Airlines takes the crown for the world's most extended nonstop journey spanning roughly 19 hours in both directions.

China's long-haul service, China Southern Airline's latest offering, would dethrone Singapore Airlines’ Singapore to Los Angeles flight, slipping into the top 8 spot on the OAG aviation database’s list of the world's longest flights.

China started reopening its borders to travelers last year, making it the first time since early 2020 when the country shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, airlines have been reinstating cancelled or minimized international connections, specifically focusing on long-distance flights to the U.S. and all over Europe.

China Southern was the first Chinese airline to initiate flights to Mexico, launching the Guangzhou-Vancouver-Mexico City route in 2017, as mentioned in Xinhua, a Chinese state-run media agency's reports.
