The injured Thuringian individual requires ongoing medical attention. - Mercedes' Take on the Horrific Accident Preceding the 2014 World Championships

Today marks the ten-year anniversary of the tragic event that occurred before the 2014 World Cup. On May 27, Benedikt Höwedes, a member of the national football team at the time, was involved in a terrifying accident during a Mercedes promotional event.

While riding as a passenger in a car, Höwedes watched helplessly as DTM driver Pascal Wehrlein injured a marshal and seriously hurt a tourist.

As per the recent ARD documentary titled "Wir Weltmeister. Abenteuer Fußball-WM 2014," the man from Thuringia still requires ongoing care for his injuries.

Reflecting back, Höwedes shares, "We caught one a little on the back. The other hit the windshield right in front of my nose."

As police in Bolzano initiated an investigation, Mercedes made a one-time donation of an unspecified amount to the victim.

The car company released their statement saying, "We knew from the outset that we would assist the victim regardless of who was responsible."

Höwedes discusses the impact of this moment on himself, "I'm still preoccupied with that moment when the man crashed into my windshield. It's something that I'm still coping with, particularly as I struggle to ride as a passenger in a car."
