Complaint lodged against hospital in Thuringia for criminal acts. - Medical facility failed to identify a stroke, resulting in permanent vision loss.
On the evening of April 11th, a seller from Thuringia returned home to find his wife, Luise, acting strangely. She wandered through the garden as if in a daze, failed to react normally, spoke to imaginary friends, and complained about vision problems in her right eye. Although a stroke had not been identified yet, these symptoms were grave indicators.
David Schlögel, a volunteer firefighter, sensed that something was amiss. He believed Luise might be experiencing aftereffects from an operation she had undergone a week prior, due to her endometriosis. Concerned for her well-being, he called an emergency service.
When the ambulance arrived at their home, they took Luise to Pößnecker Hospital. David expected to pick her up later that night after she'd received treatment. Shockingly, he got a call twenty minutes later informing him that she was being kept for further observation.
Hours later, David received another call - this time from the doctor at Pößnecker Hospital. The news was so alarming that David didn't hesitate to share his sentiment: "I was livid at the diagnosis: alcohol consumption!" He reported that Luise had just had two beers with her evening meal. Even more puzzling was the fact that the symptoms persisted, and Luise wished to go to bed.
The following day, Luise still appeared apathetic and had not actually improved. He took her to University Hospital Jena where she was thoroughly examined and diagnosed with a stroke. Luise remained in Jena until the 19th of April, then moved to rehabilitation at Moritz Clinic Bad Klosterlausnitz. A ray of hope remained in their hearts, believing that her sight might return in her right eye. However, this hope was shattered when Luise eventually lost all sight in that eye permanently.
Hospitals must be accountable for their mistakes. David Schlögel felt infuriated and, as a result, filed a criminal complaint against the Pößnecker Hospital. He felt the doctor there should've identified the stroke promptly and is now seeking justice.
