Werder's captain is the focus of attention. - May Rangnick bring Friedl to the European Championships?
Following the injury to his syndesmosis ligament and the completion of his yellow card ban, Werder Bremen's team captain has resumed playing regularly. Since their 2-1 victory against Stuttgart, the team has been undefeated.
Ösi from Werder: "I've been feeling quite upbeat in the last few weeks, and my performances have been pretty good." His recent form has seen him emerge as one of the most dependable central defenders for Werder this season, and he continues to hold out hope of representing his country at the European Championship.
Ösi: "I hope to make it there. I know the coaching staff are keeping a close eye on my performances." And it seems he's caught the eye of national coach Ralf Rangnick, who has been monitoring his progress.
Could Rangnick pick Friedl for the European Championship squad?
"I'm trying to keep up the good work, and if things pan out, I'd be thrilled. If not, then that's how it goes," says the central defender. Rangnick will announce his final selections on May 21st, so it's going to be a nerve-wracking wait for Friedl.
He last played for his country on June 6th, 2022, in a 2-1 loss to Denmark in the Nations League. In the group of central defenders, he's currently ranked 8th. Not only is there Alaba (who's sidelined due to a cruciate ligament injury), but more players may be ruled out as well.
