Marriott and MGM share details of points partnership
Marriott International and MGM Resorts International have finally announced details of their upcoming MGM Collection loyalty partnership with Marriott Bonvoy.
While the program does not offer conversion of Marriott Bonvoy points to MGM Rewards, it works the other way around: MGM Rewards Gold members are eligible for Marriott Bonvoy Silver elite status.
Those who belong to the Platinum tier of the casino operator’s rewards program are eligible for Bonvoy Gold Elite. Those who receive invitation-only status in the MGM Rewards program NOIR are eligible for Bonvoy Elite Ambassador status. According to MGM, initial adjustments to status and related benefits will last until the end of 2024.
Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Rewards offer significant benefits and experiences to members of both programs. By early 2024, members will be able to earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at more locations on the Las Vegas Strip and beyond. ” the bookmaker said.
No exact date was given for the debut of MGM Collection hotels in partnership with Marriott Bonvoy. Last October, it was announced that the partnership had been postponed after the casino giant was targeted by a ransomware attack last month.
Marriott and MGM can realize advantages
The licensing agreement, announced last July, covers MGM's 17 domestic properties, including properties on the Las Vegas Strip and the brand's regional casino hotels. Starting in October, several MGM Collection hotels under Marriott Bonvoy will be available for booking through Marriott.com and the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app. All MGM venues are expected to be available on these platforms by the end of the year.
While a pragmatic approach in the wake of MGM's cyberattack is feasible, both companies may be motivated to pursue the MGM Collection alongside Marriott Bonvoy. That urgency is likely to intensify as travelers become more interested in earning points, and as some gaming companies change their loyalty programs, things aren't always for the better.
In terms of sales and profitability, MGM CEO Bill Hornback acknowledged that the operator could gain some benefits from partnering with Marriott.
"I think by the third and fourth quarter of next year, this time next year, we should have a really good feel for what it's going to bring. One of the panel events is a slightly different discussion, given the obvious nature of this business The nature and cycle, we're going to take a little more time. Remember, I think we're going to get $50 million to $75 million of additional revenue in the first year," he said during a third-quarter earnings call in November.
Other MGM with Marriott details
The hotelier said more than 43 million MGM Rewards members can link their accounts to Marriott Bonvoy and "take advantage of select member benefits when staying at participating hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio."
Marriott Bonvoy members who are not affiliated with the MGM platform cannot earn points and tier points at the operator's casino resorts, but may have the opportunity to benefit from them.
Marriott adds that these participants “can earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points through Marriott Bonvoy on stays at all MGM Resorts properties, including ARIA Resort & Casino, Bellagio Resort & Casino and Park MGM Las Vegas, as long as These hotels are launched on the Marriott channel.”
