Corpse Disrespected and Recorded - Marie Sophie's (†14) killer faces justice.
Twenty-one-year-old René G. was sentenced to over a decade in prison for killing his friend, Marie Sophie. On September 27, 2023, Marie, aged fourteen, disappeared after meeting René secretly in a wooded area of Bad Emstal, Hesse. Her family had forbidden her from associating with the older René, so they filed a missing person report when she didn't come home. Tragically, the following day, a woodcutter found her dead, covered in tree trunks behind a shed.
The authorities quickly suspected René of the gruesome crime and arrested him the same day. In the indictment, the prosecution stated that René had caused Marie's death to gratify his sexual desires. They accused him of sexually assaulting Marie's breasts and genitals.
At the trial's onset, René G. confessed that he had hit Marie and partially undressed her before recording videos of her. However, he clarified that he did not intend to murder her. Yvonne Köster, a police officer testifying at the proceedings, reported René's strong attachment to Marie, which, according to the prosecution, turned deadly when she rejected him. This led to René being tried in the Youth Chamber of the Kassel District Court due to his age at the time of the crime.
Unfortunately, this story does not have a positive ending. Marie's family will probably never get closure, and her loss will be remembered by the people in Bad Emstal. Meanwhile, René G. will spend the next decade in prison, and we can only imagine the trauma he's caused to his victim's family and friends. A senseless act that could have been avoided if he had respected Marie's wishes and not become so obsessed with her.
