Celebrate local event - Many thousands flock to the Hessentag event.

The Hessentag festival drew in tens of thousands of visitors to Fritzlar on its first weekend. An estimated 14,000 visitors arrived on Friday, while Saturday saw a staggering 55,000 guests, according to a town representative. The small town in northern Hesse, southwest of Kassel, welcomed 70,000 people on Sunday. In total, the state festival's organizers anticipate around 500,000 attendees by the time it ends on June 2nd.

However, the mood took a somber turn with a tragic incident. On Saturday afternoon, a 52-year-old man, a resident of the Vogelsberg district, collapsed. Despite emergency responders' immediate efforts, they couldn't revive him. The town confirmed the news on Sunday, stating that an on-call doctor could only determine that the man had passed away. The man was walking with two pals when, as they described, he "suddenly collapsed" and lost consciousness.

The Hessentag's agenda includes approximately 1200 events, leading up to the parade scheduled on June 2nd. Some highlights from the weekend were the "Planet Radio" party on Saturday and the shanty rockers Santiano's concert on Sunday.

Hesse's Minister President Boris Rhein and the State Minister of the Interior Roman Poseck (both from the CDU) acknowledged the roughly 80,000 firefighters and disaster relief workers during Volunteer Firefighters' Day. Rhein praised these "silent heroes of society" for their courageous efforts and their crucial role in the fire department and disaster control. Poseck also welcomed 330 new members of the fire and disaster protection services, emphasizing their importance in maintaining Hesse's high level of fire and disaster protection.

Rhein also praised the work of Hesse's 36,000 rural women as an inspiring display of voluntary commitment. He expressed how these women's efforts in promoting healthy nutrition, responsible housekeeping, and involvement in elder care contribute significantly to the community and help preserve cohesion in rural areas.

Hessentag 2024 is scheduled for the upcoming year.
