Man killed in stabbing near Las Vegas Strat

A man was stabbed to death early Friday in an alley near the Stratton Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He died soon after.

Police said the victim was at a Circle K supermarket on South Las Vegas Boulevard minutes before the attack.

He left the store, walked to his car, and drove a short distance.

He parked on the street near West Cleveland Avenue and got out. The man began walking on the sidewalk and somehow ended up in an alley.

Argument breaks out

At this point he started arguing with another guy. Tensions escalated and the attacker "stabbed" the man at least once with an unknown object. The assailant then fled the area.

The seriously injured victim was discovered by a Circle K employee. The employee called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) at 2:02 a.m.

Police and ambulance teams attended the scene of the accident and attended to the man.

Initial treatment takes place at the crime scene. The victim was immediately transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Doctors there tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead Friday morning, Las Vegas television station KVVU reported.

The victim has not yet been identified. He is described as being in his 30s.

Shops and streets closed

Parts of Circle K and Cleveland Avenue near the crime scene were temporarily closed early Friday as LVMPD officers investigated the homicide.

Operations at the Strat, about a half-mile from Circle K, were not affected.

The stabbing appears to be an isolated incident and police say there is no threat to the public. Police did not disclose the reason for the argument.

LVMPD officers immediately began searching for the suspect. They spoke to supermarket employees and looked for other witnesses.

They also searched the area for physical evidence. There is no information yet on whether police have recovered the weapon used to stab the victim. Police did not say whether it was a knife or another object.

Officers may review surveillance video from the Strat and other nearby businesses to identify the suspect. No one was arrested shortly after the murder.

As of early Friday, LVMPD and homicide officials had not released a suspect description. No one else appeared to be involved in the stabbing.
