Argument among smokers intensifies in Hamm. - Man initiates knife attack over request for a cigarette leaf.
Monday afternoon, two migrant workers got into a dispute at a dormitory in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia. During the argument, a 51-year-old Romanian brandished a kitchen knife and jammed it into his colleague's (29) neck.
The disagreement was prompted by cigarettes.
A witness saw the incident and noticed a bleeding man at the entrance. He quickly contacted the authorities. The police department promptly dispatched several officers to the scene. Amazingly, despite the serious knife wound to his neck, the critically injured man was able to open the door for the officers himself.
The Lithuanian laborer was sent to the hospital and is still undergoing treatment. The stab penetrated 8 centimeters deep into his neck, but fortunately missed all the essential arteries. However, his life remains in imminent danger a day after the disturbing incident.
The Romanian guest worker from Moldova was taken into custody, and police confiscated a knife from his apartment. The authorities strongly suspect premeditated attempted murder, and he is set to appear before a magistrate later today.
