Man arrested in Vietnam casino 24 days after fleeing after robbing bank in South Korea
Police caught a man at a Vietnamese casino over the weekend after evading capture for 24 days. According to South Korean news outlet Korea JoonAng Daily, the suspect was accused of robbing a bank in South Korea last month.
The unidentified 47-year-old suspect allegedly stole approximately 39 million won ($29,307) from a branch of the Korea National Credit Union Federation in Daejeon.
During the robbery, the suspect allegedly wore a black helmet, used a fire extinguisher as a distraction and threatened a bank employee with a knife. There were few staff and no customers present when he allegedly planned the robbery.
The suspect also carefully planned his escape route. He used a variety of vehicles, including two motorcycles, to fend off his pursuers.
Police identified the suspect through video footage but learned he likely fled the country shortly after the attack.
Authorities subsequently contacted Interpol and Vietnamese authorities in an attempt to trace the trail.

Eventually, based on a tip from a Korean citizen living in Vietnam, the suspect was at a casino.
A South Korean citizen living in Vietnam reported to the police that he saw the suspect at a local casino a few days ago, and the suspect was subsequently captured. South Koreans had previously seen announcements made by the suspects.
Police began leaving the casino, and a few days later the suspect showed up. The man was arrested at a casino in Da Nang on Sunday evening following coordinated efforts by the national police authorities of South Korea and Vietnam, as well as assistance from Interpol.
Casino chips worth 2 million won ($1,504) were found at the time of his arrest, although authorities suspected he had spent the stolen money.
He is currently awaiting extradition to South Korea.
