Maine's Casinos Resume Operations as Suspected Gunman Identified as Deceased

The gaming establishments, Oxford Casino Hotel and Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor, located in Maine, are back in business after they had to close due to a shooting incident taking place near them.

Oxford Casino Hotel will reopen its doors at 11:00 AM on Saturday for its guests. The casino has requested its visitors to maintain a cautious and vigilant state of mind. To enter the casino, attendees will have to use the hotel entrance, where police officers will be on duty. However, the hotel will remain closed until Tuesday.

The other gaming venue, Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor, resumed its operations with enhanced security measures in place on Friday, at 4:00 PM.

Both these establishments are located at a distance of 14 miles and 106 miles, respectively, from the locations of the murders which happened in Lewiston, Maine.

Late on Friday night, officials declared that Robert Card, who had been linked to the crime as a "person of interest" and later identified as a suspect, was found dead. It appeared that Card had taken his own life with a gunshot wound. His body was discovered in a trailer near a recycling plant located in Lisbon Falls, Maine. Prior to this incident, Card had worked at the plant.

Shooting Incidents on Friday

The shootings occurred in two separate locations in Lewiston, including a bowling alley called Sparetime Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grill, which was just four miles away from the bowling alley. In total, 18 individuals lost their lives, while 13 sustained injuries.

Initially, Card was labeled a "person of interest" by the authorities. Eventually, he was marked as a suspect in the case since he was thought to be armed and dangerous, with him carrying an AR-15-style rifle.

Residents around the area were advised to remain indoors, securing their doors. Schools and a majority of the businesses were then shut down. As time passed, authorities lessened the restrictions during the afternoon on Friday.

By 7:45 PM, when Card's body was discovered, the public was advised to return to their regular daily routines.

It is said that Card might have been struggling with mental health issues, as per CNN. Further information about the incident will be provided in the following days.
