"I felt extremely anxious" - "Magnum" actor enjoys an evening out with Diana.
Tom Selleck says, "Think about this: I'm not bothered at all. It could be a tough battle at times. You see, I didn't land a great job before the age of 35 - my break was 'Magnum.' Before that, I moved from job to job."
Selleck continues, "My entire acting career is a coincidence. I didn't study acting, never did theater in high school or college, and it never interested me. It just happened. I wasn't a great student but was a great athlete. Sports taught me lessons."
He adds, "Failures are okay. I made many mistakes, like being shy. But I got out of that stage and built self-confidence over time. If I hadn't been successful for a few more years, I'd probably have become a real estate agent like my father wanted."
When asked if he has any funny memories from his meeting with Lady Diana at the White House, he replies, "Yes, it was a big event. It was probably the biggest social gathering of the year. Diana might've picked the guests, only three actors were invited: John Travolta, Clint Eastwood, and me. I flew all the way from Hawaii, so I was really anxious."
He says, "I wasn't good at small talk and couldn't dance as well as John Travolta, who danced with Diana before me."
Selleck recalls, "Diana was quite charming, and she seemed very happy that night. She was clearly having a lot of fun. It's amazing to think back to those times when we know her history. By the way, my wife Jillie, who's from England, danced with Prince Charles. That night was a big deal."
Selleck then explains, "I knew Nancy Reagan well and met the President a few times. After dancing with Diana, I danced with Nancy, which made me feel at ease again. I was then able to enjoy the rest of the evening at the White House."
"Our show is the third most successful series on all channels in America," Selleck shares. "As for ending the show, it's hard for me to imagine the channel allowing it to end since we're still doing a great job. The actors, writers, everyone love our show. So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see."
