Road congestion - Madsen calls for accelerated construction of Fehmarn Sound bridge.
To Madsen's belief, he believes that both the federal government and DB Infrago will uphold their responsibilities under the treaty between Germany and Denmark. Failure to do so would be unacceptable to their Danish counterparts, who bear the burden of the more complex part of the project.
At the beginning of May, members of the Fehmarnbelt Business Council (FBBC) voiced their concerns about the potential deadline of completing the link on the German side of the Fehmarnbelt crossing in 2029. With this in mind, the business community is seeking an assurance regarding the completion date for the Fehmarn Sound Tunnel and the hinterland connection. FBBC is an organization that brings together German, Danish, and Swedish chambers and business associations.
Though concrete elements for the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel are being poured in Rødbyhavn, Denmark, and the trench for the 18-kilometer crossing is in place, the planning process for the Fehmarnsund Tunnel remains ongoing. Deutsche Bahn has not yet set a date for the commencement of the two-kilometer tunnel's construction, which is expected to start in 2026.
