The USA surcharge has increased by 200 euros. - Lufthansa reduces the value of frequent flyer deals.
Before, flying to North America would cost about 600-700 euros in taxes and fees on top of the miles. Now, Travel-dealz.de states that the price has gone up to over 800 euros. Lufthansa's subsidiaries, including Austrian and Swiss, have joined in on the price hike.
Lufthansa raised prices for tickets to North America during the Whitsun holiday season. A round trip ticket now costs 200 euros more than it did last month.
It's become less worthwhile to take advantage of mileage bargains, which are available at the start of each month. While only 55,000 miles are necessary for a Business Class flight, taxes and fees have increased to around 850 euros.
What's particularly shady is that the fuel surcharge, labeled by Lufthansa as the "International / Domestic Surcharge," doesn't actually count towards taxes and fees. Instead, it goes straight into the airline's pockets.
However, the additional charges for other Lufthansa destinations are still reasonable: for example, 450 euros for a Business Class round trip to South Africa.
