Over 50% wiped out - Low-cost Super TV available at Aldi.
Aldi's online store is currently offering a Samsung TV with a 50-inch screen for less than 500 euros, which could tempt many people to upgrade their living room in time for the European Football Championship. The discount is 53% off the retail price (1049 euros).
But is this really a good deal?
Features and Capabilities of the TV from Aldi
Christoph de Leuw, head of the hardware department at , describes the TV on offer: "The Samsung GU50CU8589 is similar to the CU8079 we tested, with a test score of 2.2, offering excellent coloring, decent contrast and sufficient brightness."
The test winner for this price range is also a Samsung product: The GQ50QN90CAT, with a score of 1.3, but it costs double the amount.
De Leuw adds: "The features are typical for this price range with three HDMI and two USB ports, no recording function and no headphone output, instead there's Bluetooth connectivity. As is common with Samsung, all possible streaming functions are included. Based on the available information, the CU8589 appears to only differ in design."
Price Comparison and Value Assessment
A quick comparison reveals that Aldi currently has the cheapest price for this TV at 489 euros. However, the TV can also be found at other retailers for less than 500 euros.
Expert verdict: "It's still a great value, as the CU8079 is currently priced at 650 euros for the same size."
