Educational institutions of higher learning - Long-term predictions suggest an increase in first-semester students in Hesse.

Government-backed universities in Hesse will likely see an influx of new student enrolments in the coming years, according to a report from the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) in Berlin. By 2034, the number of students beginning their studies is projected to rise to 35,900 from the current number in 2024, which is 3,000 more. However, it's anticipated that student numbers will initially decline up to and including 2026, only to see an uptick starting in 2027. In 2017, Hesse's universities had around 38,500 first-year students, but this dropped to roughly 30,700 by 2021. A rise in enrolment was noted in 2022.
