Long Island Casino Bid Reinforced by Integrative Wellness Heavyweight Canyon Ranch
Gambling specialist Las Vegas Sands is wagering on boosting its chances of being selected for one of the three coveted downstate New York casino permits by teaming up with Canyon Ranch - a frontrunner in the tourist wellness sector.
Sands envisions a sum exceeding $4 billion for an integrated casino resort on Long Island, at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale. Sands executives state that if their company manages to secure one of the three downstate licenses, they will construct a vast entertainment and deluxe sanctuary on the 72-acre site, known domestically as the Nassau Hub.
Their proposal encompasses a top-class, five-star hotel, a casino floor that boasts slot machines, table games, and sports betting, as well as live concerts. The integrated resort would also incorporate a variety of renown chef restaurants, adaptable meeting and conference rooms. The casino, Sands emphasizes, would only utilize a tenth of the total square footage.
Sands officials, in previous discussions about the vast project, have hinted at a comprehensive day spa and wellness club. This week, they became more explicit concerning this collaboration with the introduction of Canyon Ranch incorporated into the project.
Canyon Ranch: Awaiting Approval
Canyon Ranch is the owner and operator of two health and wellbeing-focused resorts. These establishments can be found in Lenox, Massachusetts, and Tucson, Arizona, ensuring guests an extensive range of services and amenities.
Canyon Ranch's services include spa and beauty treatment, fitness, nutrition, healthcare, mental and spiritual development. Patrons can enjoy facial treatments, massages, take part in yoga and other physical classes, consult a private health expert, master nutritious cooking, locate their purpose, and receive spiritual guidance.
Canyon Ranch vacations can be pricey with a 'Lifestyle Reset' package, aimed at assisting guests in attaining a life with more energy and conviction, costing $1,100 a night pre-tax.
Apart from its destination resorts, Canyon Ranch operates a smaller location at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, a property that Las Vegas Sands erected and owned before selling the two casinos for $6.25 billion in 2021. Portions of this sum are believed to be used on the Las Vegas Sands Long Island project if they emerge victorious in the bidding war.
Gamble on the Comeback
Neither Sands' casino nor Canyon Ranch on Long Island are guaranteed winners. Sands is among numerous potential contenders in what's quickly unfolding as a heated contest for the desired concessions.
Other notable casino companies rumored to be putting forward bids include Caesars Entertainment, targeting a Times Square effort, and Wynn Resorts focused on a casino in Hudson Yards. Hard Rock ventures with Steve Cohen for a ballpark installation situated at Citi Field, the Mets' headquarters. Coney Island is also a target for a consortium with affiliates Thor Equities, Saratoga Casino Holdings, and the Chickasaw Nation, who operate the world's largest casino at WinStar World Casino Hotel in Oklahoma. Mohegan is also in contention, pitching Midtown East near the United Nations.
