Lithuania holds a run-off presidential election.
In 2019, Simonyte lost to Nauseda in a head-to-head election. Now, in the upcoming race, Nauseda is once again the lead contender. The 60-year-old, non-partisan Nauseda finds support from the Social Democrats. Simonyte, on the other hand, has led the EU and NATO member country in the Baltic region as a prime minister since 2020, helming a center-right coalition. Amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict, security and defense take center-stage in this election campaign.
