Ban on new alcohol sales introduced - Liquor bust at Ballermann
Ever since May 12th, there's been a prohibition against alcohol in public spaces in Playa de Palma, Arenal, Magaluf, and Sant Antoni de Portmany on Ibiza. Food outlets and kiosks that sell alcohol were forced to shut down at 9:30 p.m. - perfect for illegal traders to flourish.
The police have been roaming the Ballermann on motorcycles, patrol cars, and police cars. They even stationed themselves right next to the Megapark, along the promenade, and drove through the booze and ham alleys along with the other side streets.
It seemed like the police presence was effective! Encountering very few people visiting the Ballermann in the evening and the overall noise being unusually low. Almost no one came to drink, only for a cozy picnic on the beach wall. This was the target of the Ballermann authorities. But what's the take of the party-lovers?
Luisa Edenharder (22) from Bavaria is a healthcare assistant: "I don't necessarily have to drink alcohol everywhere on the beach or in public places. The police didn't bother us much during the day, but from the evening onwards, there were tons of cops in the Ballermann. The police drive through here constantly."
