Unexpected development at Cannes: Becker - Lilian's engagement is perfect!
Despite featuring in a movie being screened there, he kept his presence anonymous until the last moment. The element of surprise grew stronger when his lover, Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro (33), made an unexpected appearance at his side – sports a gorgeous engagement ring!
When quizzed, Boris Becker verified
The former tennis player chose not to disclose the timing of the proposal or any potential wedding date. His cherished privacy is paramount to him.
Nevertheless, there's no need to orchestrate happiness with grandeur to convey love. A flicker of joy on both their faces during the interview in Cannes conveys more than a thousand words.
Lilian and Boris have been together since 2020. The London-based risk analyst stood by his side even through his legal battles and a multi-month jail term in 2022.
Currently, they dwell in Milan, which served as their base for the Cannes Film Festival. The documentary "Nasty - More Than Just Tennis" was the highlight of this event. The film chronicles the life of erstwhile Romanian tennis prodigy Ilie "Nasty" Nastase (77).
"Ilie is a colossal name in tennis," Becker remarks, "and an old acquaintance to me. He was an extraordinary persona during his active years, a showman." In the '70s, Nastase held the top spot in world tennis rankings for a total of 40 weeks.
The reputation of being unruly earned Nastase his moniker "Nasty." "Sure, Nasty earned his sobriquet because he was sometimes ruthless and disdainful on the court, but that's how he was," Becker says.
Becker met Nastase around age 16 through his lifetime manager Ion Tiriac (85). He also cross-played with Nastase around four decades ago and emerged victorious. Boris has now joined the production crew of Nastase's biopic.
Together with a lavish retinue of ex-tennis players, both Nastase and Tiriac - along with a large entourage - graced the Cannes premiere. Subsequently, they celebrated the debut of their project at an intimate gathering behind the scenes. And perhaps, an additional reason could be Becker and Monteiro's engagement.
