Farming and cultivation activities - Less strawberry production in Brandenburg.
For years, there has been a decrease in the number of strawberries grown in the state of Brandenburg. This was recently revealed by the Berlin-Brandenburg Horticultural Association, who noted a 33% decline in the area under cultivation when compared to the previous year. Outdoor strawberry harvests have contracted by more than 40%. This reduction can be attributed to the intense heat and lack of rainfall experienced in the area.
In addition, strawberry growers in the state are facing several challenges. The costs of inputs, energy, and higher minimum wages have all increased significantly, causing financial strain. They also face stiff competition from strawberries being imported from places like southern Europe, where they're produced with excessive amounts of water and pesticides. These European strawberries, currently on supermarket shelves, will not be available in Brandenburg for another two weeks.
