The lone establishment serving as an Event Management venue. - Leipzig's Stadium labeled in green
In recent months, efforts have been made to minimize game-related waste and significantly increase recycling rates. Only Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga has undergone a comparable audit by TÜV Süd. RB was awarded Bronze certification, while TSG earned a Silver status.
Leipzig Stadium became the first to require fans to separate their waste during games. RB provided different bins for plastic, paper, and general waste. Moreover, sustainability issues were highlighted through various actions, with a switch to a reusable cup system in the VIP/Hospitality area.
The outcome was astonishing: over 85% of the generated waste was either recycled or materially reused. The recycling rate has more than doubled compared to 2019.
Ulrich Wolter, RB's Chief Relationship Officer, expressed pride in their achievement, stating, "We are proud, but won't stop here. We're already setting our sights on more ambitious goals."
Moving forward, the club plans to maintain these values in the stadium, extending waste and resource management to their youth academy and business office.
RB Leipzig's commitment to sustainability
Since 2022, RB Leipzig has partnered with PreZero to focus on sustainability. They introduced paperless tickets and emphasized eco-friendly travel options for fans. Free public transport tickets and a bike garage are now available on the festival grounds.
During the stadium renovation, the old seats were recycled, and the new seats boast a 90% share of recycled plastic, a first in Europe.
