Myths unfold in Saarland. - Lecoute: "Padel has rescued tennis!"
The French celebrity Henri Leconte (60), known for his charm, down-to-earth attitude, and humor, was nicknamed the "genius clown" of France. He's now making his way to Saarland!
Despite his age, he hasn't lost his passion for tennis. He's a tennis analyst for French television and also consults with the most prestigious tennis club in Luxembourg City. Some argue that padel tennis is stealing the spotlight from traditional tennis - but not Leconte. He believes padel has actually helped tennis, by attracting younger generations to the game. He says, "Padel has been a blessing for tennis! Many tennis clubs have added padel courts, which has led to a resurgence of interest in tennis. It's more popular than ever."
Leconte is set to take on Saarland native Benjamin Becker, who's over 20 years his junior, in St. Wendel, chuckling, "I called him and asked him to be nice to me. We're there to have fun. We're there to make people laugh. There's an age gap, but my mind is still sharp. Sadly, my legs, knees, and hands aren't."
Becker replies with a laugh, "You can definitely see Henri is in good condition. He's just a bit slower these days. I'm excited to play in St. Wendel again. It was such a blast the last time I was there a decade ago."
Another exciting event at the vibrant blue-and-white party: The star-studded celebrity doubles, where Henri Leconte and Benjamin Becker will be joined by table tennis world champion Steffen "Speedy" Fetzner and Söhne-Mannheim musician Michael Herberger.
