She found herself in the midst of a lake. - Law enforcement novice rescues woman from near-drowning incident
Last evening, police and firefighters saved a 19-year-old woman from a quarry pond in Hemer-Mesterscheid, Sauerland. At around 6:40 pm, an emergency call was made, and a police patrol arrived promptly.
A 24-year-old police officer swiftly put on his full uniform and swam to the young woman struggling in the lake, keeping her head above water. With the help of a helicopter, they managed to rescue the injured lady from the inaccessible location.
The fire department provided medical attention to the woman. She was then airlifted to the hospital, where she is currently being treated for head injuries and bone fractures on the intensive care unit.
Praise for Young Police Officer
The watch leader Andreas Filzhaut commended the police officer, saying "In a moment, all three police officers realized someone had to act quickly and made that decision right away. If not, the young lady would have drowned. I'm incredibly proud of the officer who made this decision. He's back on duty and writing his report. I commend him for his brave actions."
This isn't the first time emergency services have been called to this abandoned quarry. They've had to rescue youth groups or make them leave. Despite the 70-meter-high cliffs being fenced off, incidents still occur. The lake is approximately 80 meters deep.
