Police bust pit bull crime syndicate - Law enforcement authorities intercept unlawful canine battles.

In Slovakia, the authorities are conducting a big operation called 'Anubis,' which targets the hideouts of the Pitbull mafia. This international gang is known for hosting illegal dog fights in Eastern Europe.

A matter of life and death for the animals

These dogs are specially bred and trained to be ferocious fighters. The fights happen in wooden enclosures, and the outcome is usually fatal. The dogs used in these fights are mainly sickly Pitbulls given steroids and crude training to transform them into vicious beasts.

An inside look at these bloody spectacles

These gruesome events are entertainment for the spectators and a source of profit through gambling. The winning dog is usually scarred for life, while the losing dog often doesn't survive these fights. A leaked police video shows the horrible injuries endured by the dogs, but the gory images have been obscured.

Raids reveal dogfighting equipment

Police raided homes and properties in the regions of Trnava (German: Tyrnau), Žilina (Sillein), and Nitra (Neutra) as part of the operation. One of the police spokespeople, Roman Hájek, told the Nový čas newspaper, "During the searches, dozens of Pitbull Terriers were found, both males and females."

Steroids, technology, and data found

Authorities have been monitoring this group for some time and needed indisputable evidence to shut them down. The searches uncovered several items, including wooden weights, steroids, dog-chipping technology, and data packages containing videos of the fights.

We don't know if there were any arrests yet. "Thanks to ongoing investigations, it's not possible to provide more information at this time," said the Slovak police. Participating in dogfights in Slovakia can lead to a prison sentence of up to five years.

Dog fights also occur in Germany

Animal rights activists claim that these events also happen in Germany. They encourage people to report such activities to the veterinary office or police.

*If your neighbors have lots of a specific breed of dog (e.g., Pitbull Terriers, American Bulldogs, or Staffordshire Terriers) and sometimes, these dogs disappear, or there are traces of training equipment around like bite marks on trees or on playgrounds, or a dog in your neighborhood or vicinity has regular bite wounds, you should inform the veterinary office or the police.
