Previous post: An armed standoff broke out at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas after a man told police he had a gun and appeared to be holding a woman hostage in his cordoned off hotel room. SWAT and crisis negotiators are on scene.
"We are actively trying to resolve this issue," the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said on Twitter.
Police responded to a domestic violence call at 9:15 a.m. local time. Rooms are located above the pool area on the south side of the resort. The area was evacuated and the affected hotel floors were cordoned off, but the hotel remained open.
It is unclear whether the woman is related to the man.
"She was still in the room at this time," LVMPD Bureau Chief Stephen Connell said at a news conference. "We have heard from the woman and she remains in good condition."
Police saw no weapons, Cornell said, and some had previously thought they were gunshots and objects thrown through the hotel room's shattered window.
"Our team is fully cooperating with local law enforcement officials in their investigation," Caesars Palace said in a statement.
