Police Investigation Bureau of the State - Last year in Thuringia, over 200 children went missing.

In the region of Thuringia, 23 youngsters were reported missing at the start of May. This news was revealed by the State Office of Criminal Investigation (LKA) to mark Missing Children's Day on Saturday. However, it's just a snapshot, as most of these cases get resolved within a short time frame. In Bavaria last year, there were approximately 1,600 missing persons including around 205 kids under 13, as per LKA. Out of these, 197 cases were solved.

The reasons for children vanishing from their homes are widely varied, with a common factor being the yearning for adventure. The police conduct a "return interview" with these children once they're found to uncover the details of their disappearance.

Children's Missing Day is celebrated on May 25th annually. This tradition was initiated in 1983 to remember a six-year-old boy named Etan who went missing while walking to school on May 25, 1979. His whereabouts remained a mystery for several decades.

One case from 2023 that garnered considerable attention and concern was the disappearance of a six-year-old autistic boy from Bremervörde, Lower Saxony. The child has been missing since April 22nd, prompting a massive search effort. Hundreds of emergency responders and volunteers scoured the land, water, and sky day and night in an attempt to find him.
