Las Vegas welcomes 400,000 visitors over New Year's Eve weekend

Las Vegas is expected to welcome more than 356,000 visitors and 44,000 locals this weekend to ring in the New Year. If these numbers are realized, early 2024 will be one of the busiest new years in Southern Nevada.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) expects the influx of weekend visitors to generate $411.4 million in direct spending. Combining indirect and induced spending, the tourism bureau expects the 2024 New Year holiday to bring in $727 million in total economic output.

Although Fontainebleau and Durango have more rooms available after their recent openings, resort prices are high. Luxury hotels like the Bellagio, Aria and Red Rock will cost around $600 per night this weekend, including resort fees and taxes. The Durango is sold out, while the Fontainebleau is on sale for just over $400.

Budget travelers won’t be able to find a room for less than $100, even in the city center. The cheapest rooms, at the Plaza and Golden Nugget, cost less than $200 per night (including fees and taxes). Silver Sevens is located one mile east of the Las Vegas Strip and tickets are $175, including fees and taxes.

Like last year, Las Vegas may benefit from New Year's Eve falling on a Sunday, with many visitors turning the holiday into a long weekend.

Record month November

Last month was the busiest month ever for Harry Reid International Airport, formerly known as McCarran Airport until it was renamed in 2021 to honor Nevada's longtime U.S. senator.

The Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas attracted new visitors in November, with passenger traffic at Las Vegas' main airport rising more than 6 percent to more than 4.83 million passengers. With F1 becoming the most popular in Europe, international flights increased by 28% to almost 266,000 arriving and departing passengers.

Harry Reid has set a new annual passenger record with just one month to go with 11 months of recorded airport data.

LAS connects the world to Las Vegas, whether for work, vacation, visiting loved ones or attending sports or special events,” said Clark County Aviation Director Rosemary Vassiliadis.“While we won’t know for sure until next month final totals for 2023, but the LAS team is already focused on a busy start to 2024. "

As of November, the airport handled more than 52.8 million passengers. That's a 9.4% increase from last year and already surpasses last year's 52.6 million air passenger numbers.

Starting in January

After a busy start to the new year, Las Vegas is gearing up for its busiest convention month of the year.

Notable January trade shows this year include CES January 9-12 and World of Concrete January 23-25. CES is expecting 180,000 visitors, while World of Concrete is expected to attract 61,000 visitors.

February will also be busy as the Tobacco Plus Expo will attract around 75,000 visitors between January 31 and February 2. Later this month, Las Vegas will host Super Bowl 58 on February 11 at Allegiant Stadium.
