Las Vegas Police Dismiss Charges Against Cardi B for Throwing a Microphone
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has wrap up their investigation into the alleged battery incident involving popular rapper Cardi B last Saturday at Drai's Beachclub. No charges will be filed.
During her performance, Cardi B threw her microphone at someone in the audience who had splashed her with a cup full of water and ice. This happened not long after the artist asked her crowd to spray water on her to cool off in the hot Vegas heat.
A police report was filed the next day, but it wasn't filed by the person Cardi B hit with the mic. It was filed by the 26-year-old woman standing next to that person, as per the report. The woman said the microphone missed its target and hit her instead, causing pain in her shoulder.
The woman said she will seek medical attention once she returns home, and explained that she didn't report the incident right away due to the large crowd and her inability to deal with security or the police at that time.
The case never made it to the DA's office as police concluded there was insufficient evidence that the rapper had done anything criminal.
In a joint statement, Cardi B's attorneys, Drew Findling of Atlanta and David Chesnoff and Richard Scholfeld of Las Vegas, appreciated the department's prompt and thorough handling of the matter.
The incident became a major media event, with the microphone used in the incident currently up for sale on eBay for nearly $100K. It's set to be auctioned off on Tuesday, August 8.
This wasn't the first time Cardi B used a microphone to make a statement in Vegas that weekend. Just hours earlier at Drai's nightclub, a viral TikTok video showed her throwing a microphone at her DJ after performing her 2018 hit, "I Like It." The reason for this, according to a commenter on the video, was her frustration with the DJ cutting off her songs too early.
