Las Vegas on track to break New Year's Eve wedding record thanks to "123-123"
No American city's economy relies more on magical number crunching than Las Vegas. And the magic number Sin City is betting on right now is 12/31/23. The repeated "1-2-3-1-2-3" pattern prompted the city's wedding industry to declare the date a "feature" wedding date.
July 7, 2007, the final day of the "Lucky 7 Days," set the record for the most weddings in a single day in Las Vegas, with 4,492 weddings. A Las Vegas wedding chapel is hoping New Year's Eve brings more hope.
The icing on the cake? This particular day coincides with a holiday known for above-average knot tying. About 500 ceremonies have been held every New Year's Eve in Las Vegas since 2018, about twice as many as on an average night, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
It’s a double whammy,” Melody Willis-Williams, president of venue operator Vegas Weddings, told R-J. “Anytime you get these special dates, they’re always a hit. But combine it with New Year's Eve and it's really compelling. "
Willis-Williams said her company alone expects to host more than 120 couples next Sunday night at its dozen area venues, most as close to midnight as possible and not into 2024 January 1st.
Only five couples received one of Vegas Wedding's $2,000 packages, which guaranteed a wedding during the actual countdown.
Even if this New Year's Eve doesn't go past 7/7/07 - after all, 1-2-3-1-2-3 doesn't really cross anyone's mind unless they think about it - expect to end up on the charts somewhere on. The second-highest date was Nov. 11, 2011, with 3,125 ceremonies, and the third-highest date was Oct. 10, 2010, with 2,700 ceremonies, according to the Clark County Marriage Bureau.
In response to a plethora of questions from last-minute decision-makers who don't dream of glamorous romances, Clark County has set up a temporary marriage license office at Harry Reid Airport now through Dec. 31.

Oh, and boo! No one tells these couples that New Year’s Eve actually falls on 1-2-3-1-2-0-2-3.
