Las Vegas Myths Busted: Elvis Meets Madonna

Photos are real. It shows Tom DeLisle's review of a Presley concert at the Olympic Stadium on September 12, 1970, the previous night. On September 7, Elvis just completed his second appearance at the Las Vegas International Hotel, completing three performances in a nine-city tour. This was his first multi-city tour in 13 years. .
The photo, taken by photographer Mike McClure, shows the King signing autographs for a group of fans outside the venue before that night's concert. Yes, one of the fans looks a lot like Madonna, who grew up in Detroit.
Let's compare this photo to an actual photo of 14-year-old Madonna Louis Ciccone, from the 1972 yearbook of Mount West Junior High School in Rochester, Michigan.

However, just a month before McClure took this photo, Madonna was just 11 years old. Even though the subject in the photo is young, she doesn't look "that" young.
Madonna raised further questions when she posted a tribute to David Bowie on Facebook the day after his death in 2016. She wrote in the letter that his concert at Detroit's Cobo Arena was her first. This concert took place on June 22, 1974, when she was 15 years old.

In 2005, Madonna matched Elvis Presley's record of 36 U.S. top 10 singles and was asked by dozens of interviewers. However, she never mentioned to any of them that she had ever seen or met him, nor did she mention Elvis' name in hundreds of other interviews.
Incredibly, such a notoriously extroverted superstar never mentioned such an iconic encounter in his 42-year acting career, and no serious biographer or journalist would dig up it.

Not all features of the two photos we showed you above match perfectly. The young woman's nostrils in the newspaper photo are closer together and her two front teeth are farther apart than Madonna's, who never wore braces as a child.
So, this Madonna is no different than the Elvis impersonator standing to the right of the mystery woman in McClure's photo, except that she looks a lot like her.
