Las Vegas hotel room search reveals 30 dogs, 10 dead

A couple was recently arrested on suspicion of hoarding and "cruelty" to animals. Authorities found 10 dead and 20 living dogs in a room at an unnamed Las Vegas hotel, along with other dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs elsewhere.

Authorities have now announced that nearly 100 animals were found in the couple's car, an unknown residence or a hotel room. Twenty-five of them were found dead, Las Vegas television station KSNV reported.

The discovery led to her arrest. They were identified as 72-year-old Carolyn Luke and 79-year-old Timothy Miller. Both men were charged with eleven counts of animal cruelty.

The first charge involves "torture, crushing, harming or abandoning" a guinea pig, according to court documents cited by Las Vegas television station KLAS. Dog abuse may incur additional charges.

The suspect appeared in Boulder Municipal Court on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear again, this time virtually, on Thursday.

Both suspects have been held at the Henderson Detention Center since Tuesday.

Initially, the couple was stopped by Boulder City police around 5 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Nevada and Juniper roads in Boulder, about 30 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip.

Animal carcasses in the car

When the occupants rolled down their windows, officers could smell the odor of dead animals inside the vehicle. " Boulder City officials revealed in a statement.

Police found 51 guinea pigs and rabbits in her car. When police searched the vehicle, they found 11 guinea pigs dead. They were placed in plastic bags and suitcases, according to KSNV. Over the next few days, four more guinea pigs died.

"Our officers immediately realized something was wrong," said the lieutenant. Thomas Herring of the Boulder Police Department added in the statement. "The suspect was concerned about other animals she said were at her home and a Las Vegas hotel and immediately notified the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department."

When KSNV reached out to City of Boulder Animal Control Director Ann Inabnitt for comment, she noted that veterinary care for these animals can cost thousands of dollars.

We have also noticed that some of the pets are pregnant so it may be several weeks before we seize the exact number of animals," she added. "I appreciate the efforts of those who called us with a tip and the speed of the officers in their investigations reaction. "

ANIMAL RIGHTS ADVOCATE SURVEY

Boulder City police stopped the suspect's vehicle after receiving a tip from Gina Gleason, KSNV reported. She is president of Nevada Animal Voters.

She drove to the couple's home after receiving a report of a possible animal presence. She then followed her car to Boulder City.

I have made it clear to all agencies, including Metro, that I will not let go. I will follow them. I don't care how until I run out of gas. "I'm going to follow these people because I'm going to find out where these animals are," KSNV quoted Gleason as saying.

"They need to be held accountable. They must be brought to justice."

Officials from Henderson and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) declined to provide further details about the investigation to KLAS.

It was also reported that LVMPD officers responded to an animal complaint in the West Valley. It may refer to two suspects, KLAS reported.
