Las Vegas escapee kidnapped from Luxor hotel and sex-trafficked
A teenager who later ran away from his family was kidnapped in Las Vegas. She was also a victim of sex trafficking at the Luxor Hotel and Casino.
Corey Canton, 36, of Las Vegas, was arrested this week on seven counts for allegedly being the girl's pimp.
Canton was charged Tuesday with sexual assault, two counts of sex trafficking of a minor under 18, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping of a minor and one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
As of Thursday morning, he remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. His bail was set at $25,000 and he is scheduled to appear in local court on Monday.
His case has been transferred to the local prosecutor's office. If convicted, he could face years in prison.
The incident began on November 28 when the unnamed girl fled from her family who were visiting Las Vegas and staying at a Las Vegas casino hotel.
Met another teen while stripping
The teen began walking on the Las Vegas Strip and soon encountered another teen near Caesars Palace Las Vegas.
Another unnamed teen asked the runaway "if he wanted to join her and make some quick money with her," the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
The runaway wasn't sure what the teen meant, but she accompanied her to the Las Vegas Days Inn on Koval Lane.
There, the victim was introduced to another teen's boyfriend, who turned out to be Canton.
The gun was pulled out
Canton allegedly forced the victim to perform sex acts. When she tried to leave the motel room, he allegedly pulled out a gun.
The two teens then traveled to Luxor, where a man paid them $100 for sex, police said. Canton's girlfriend also reportedly stole $1,000 from the man's pants pocket in a Luxor hotel room.
The next day, Canton ordered the girls to find more prostitution tricks. They were told to charge clients $100 to $300 for sex acts.
The teens went to the Las Vegas Strip and returned to the Days Inn a few hours later. The victim gave Canton $59.
Canton then fed the girls and provided them with alcohol and marijuana before driving them back to the Las Vegas Strip, police said.
The victim eventually escaped and returned to his family. She disclosed the details of the trafficking and kidnapping to her mother, who immediately reported the incident to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
When LVMPD officers searched Canton's motel room, they found a 9mm handgun and arrested him. As a criminal, he was not allowed to own a gun, the Review-Journal reported.
It's unclear what happened to the second teen, Canton's girlfriend. Often, adolescents who are victims of sex trafficking are provided with resources to help them change their lifestyles.
