Las Vegas criminal case: Alleged prostitute allegedly stole $25,000 Rolex from Cosmopolitan

A 23-year-old prostitute was arrested last week for allegedly stealing $25,000 in cash and a $30,000 Rolex watch from the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas two years ago.

Jaydn Nicole Edwards was charged Aug. 22 with theft, conspiracy to commit theft and violation of probation. She was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where she has been since Wednesday. Her parole status will be determined at a court hearing next week.

Police revealed that on September 9, 2021, Edwards and another woman named Quansae Rutlegde were accompanied by three men into a hotel room at the Metropolitan Hotel. Once there, they ate, drank and had fun before one of the men asked the other to take his $25,000 in cash, a $35,000 check and Rolex watch, which he kept, Las Vegas TV station KLAS reported His sister's hotel room.

The man agreed and put the money and watch into his pocket. But as he entered the corridor, one of the women proposed to him and they went to the hotel room where they had sex before the man fell asleep. When he woke up, the man carrying the cash and watch discovered the items were missing and notified local police.

Police Warning "Trick Roll"

Police identified Edwards and Rutgerd as suspects after reviewing hotel surveillance video and finding their fingerprints inside the hotel. According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officials, police realized the theft was part of a scheme known as a "trick roll."

Rutgerd was charged with theft and conspiracy to commit theft. LVMPD officers also conducted a background check on Edwards, who had previous arrests for prostitution, theft and trespassing, KLAS reported.

The report continues that in March, she pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny.

CONTRACT CONSPIRACY TO MURDER

A 45-year-old contractor was recently arrested for allegedly paying an undercover police officer to kidnap and kill one man and murder another. The man claimed that the first intended victim had sex with the suspect's wife.

Mario Valdez was charged on Aug. 23 with conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to kidnap or arson, Las Vegas television station KLAS reported. As of Wednesday, he remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. His bail was set at $20,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court next month.

On August 16, a confidential informant told Metro detectives that Valdez had asked to kidnap and murder a man in exchange for cash, KLAS reported.

As part of a police investigation, an undercover investigator posed as a hit man. He met with Valdez and said he would kill his intended target, a former associate of Valdez, in exchange for an initial payment of $4,000 and subsequent payments of $2,000.

Valdez told undercover officers to ask the target about necklaces and jewelry and whether he had had sex with his wife, police said. Valdez also wanted the killer to threaten to castrate the intended victim's son so he would tell the truth, according to KLAS.

"(The undercover officer) specifically asked him how he wanted the murder to occur and if he wanted him to cut off the victim's ear as a souvenir," the Metro arrest report states. "Valdez responded that he wanted an ear but did not want to be contacted during the crime because he was concerned the crime could be traced, meaning the murder could be traced back to Valdez."

Valdez also wanted to document the contract killing, police said.

The victim's family included relatives in Mexico, and Valdez hinted to the undercover what might be happening to them.

Valdez later told the undercover agent that he wanted him to kill the second man. Police said it was unclear why Valdez wanted the second victim dead, but Valdez wanted "the murder to look like a robbery gone wrong."
