Las Vegas casino guest suspected of murdering wife in Pennsylvania
A suspect wanted in connection with his wife's recent fatal shooting was arrested Tuesday at the Las Vegas Mardi Gras Hotel and Casino.
Arthur Guty Jr., 55, had $100,000 in cash on him when he was arrested by Las Vegas police on suspicion of a Pennsylvania murder.
Guti was recently suspected of murdering 26-year-old Nicole Zambrano. Her body was found Monday in the couple's apartment in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
Police tracked Guti to Las Vegas by checking cellphone signals. Las Vegas police monitored the casino for about 12 hours before discovering him.
He was eventually arrested while having breakfast at the casino. Pennsylvania authorities are currently trying to extradite him from Nevada.
A warrant issued by Pennsylvania charges him with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. He has not yet been formally charged with these crimes.
Plan to escape
"We believe he was leaving the country with a large amount of cash and was trying to evade or at least try to evade any responsibility for what happened here," Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele told PA. TV station WTAE.
Zambrano, a Venezuelan who works as a housekeeper at the Nemacolin Forest Resort, missed three days last week. Colleagues were concerned and called the police.
Local police contacted Guti and asked where his wife was. Authorities told WTAE he provided inaccurate and conflicting information.
First, Ms. Zambrano was in Richmond with a friend. Visited his father and dentist in Florida with Mr. Goody. Also in Richmond, Virginia, and ended up meeting Mr. Goody in the Grand Canyon,” Obell told Pennsylvania station WPXI.
In a recent interview, Goody's neighbor Bob Luick recalled to WPXI: "About a month ago, he made a statement saying he thought she was joking. That's what he said: 'What if? I find her messing around and I'm going to kill her,'" Luke revealed.
He was the target of an assassination attempt
It was also reported that Goody was involved in a murder-for-hire plot in 2019 by his first wife, Roxanne Goody. She attempted to hire a hit man to pay off half of her then-husband's life insurance policy. She pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.
This case is not related to last month's murder.
"At this point we don't believe the cases are related in any way. Yeah, it's weird, it's definitely weird," Obell recently told WPXI.
