Increased visitor count leads to higher revenue. - Landlords in Malle celebrate with the ban on alcohol.
The island aims to reduce the noise and chaos surrounding Schinkenstraße and other areas by imposing strict regulations. There will be no more alcohol allowed on streets and squares. Additionally, the sale of alcohol in stores is restricted at night. The goal is to improve the island's image.
Restaurateurs anticipate higher profits
Dirk Junske (55), Managing Director of Schnitzelhaus Amador, supports this move: "It's fantastic for us restaurant owners. Prior to this, tourists took large amounts of alcohol to the beach and didn't spend as much in bars and restaurants. Now, it's reversed, which we can see in terms of sales. The beach is also cleaner with less glass and a decreased risk of injury."
Evelyn Suárez (28), manager of "Levita": "This is a good decision by the government; it'll reflect positively on our earnings. I've already seen the police checking tourists."
Frank Miedema (65), owner of "La Terraza" chimes in: "Awesome for our industry!"
What do tourists think?
However, Stephan Krause (44), a fellow restaurant owner, disagrees and believes that the ban on drinking won't be implemented: "I don't think the government will manage to pull this off. Mallorca thrives on tourists."
Leon Pollok (29), from Cuxhaven, comments: "The alcohol ban is unrealistic. If they move forward with it, I'll stop visiting Mallorca and opt for Croatia or the golden sands."
The ultimate verdict on this matter has yet to be reached between restaurant owners and tourists.
