Football: A Popular Sport - Kroos says goodbye to Real Madrid: "Thank you, Legend"
The renowned German player Toni Kroos was treated with an emotional send-off from his fans and teammates at Real Madrid during his last league home match with the club.
In honor of his final game, the Spanish football giants stood guard for the 34-year-old, who is set to halt his highly successful career after the European Championship in the summer. The Real Madrid stars adorned Kroos' shirt, displaying the number 8. The adoring crowds at Santiago Bernabéu stadium displayed a large banner, which read: "Gracias Leyenda," translating to "Thank you, legend."
The entertainment-free game against Betis Sevilla concluded in a scoreless draw. Kroos, with his national teammate Antonio Rüdiger in the starting lineup, and his replacement were both seen in action. Madrid still has an imperative encounter ahead of them; they will face Borussia Dortmund in London on Saturday for the Champions League championship.
Kroos has made a name for himself, earning numerous titles, including the Champions League trophy five times prior - four with Real Madrid and once with Bayern Munich. This season also marked his fourth Spanish league championship. As the Champions League final is around the corner, Kroos and Rüdiger will join up with the German national team led by coach Julian Nagelsmann to prepare for the home European Championship. On Tuesday, Kroos confirmed his intentions to retire from professional football.
