Arminia escapes relegation - Klos Bids Farewell with Graceful Hold on Class Standings
Fabian Klos (36) was given an emotional farewell at his last league home game for Bielefeld. Over 23,500 fans (all tickets sold out) celebrated the nearly-end of an extraordinary career with their hero, as they cheered him on from the Alm stadium.
The final whistle blew, and Klos dropped to his knees, sobbing. The all-time record holder for Arminia (461 appearances) gave the club he loved so much a 0-0 draw against Hallescher FC. The stadium turned into a wild party afterward, as everyone celebrated their favorite player, who had been with the East Westphalians for 13 years through all their highs and lows.
Fabian Klos was named the first-ever honorary captain in the club's history. He'll also have a farewell match to end off his career.
Michael Mutzel, head of sports, said, "Fabian deserves special recognition. He has always demonstrated a lot of dedication and passion throughout the years. He's an Armine through and through and, as captain, has always accepted responsibility."
Klos shared a touching message: "I've experienced so many moments here - some good, some bad. I'm sincerely grateful to every single Arminia fan. I've done all this not for the money, but first and foremost for the fans and the club. The award from the club brings me great joy. Arminia will always be, and will remain, in my heart."
