"Departure is difficult" - Klopp releases emotional goodbye clip
On Sunday, the Liverpool coach will say goodbye for the last time on the sidelines, as he bids farewell to the Reds after more than eight years. Klopp shares an emotional farewell on Instagram, a platform he never used before.
Klopp addresses the Liverpool fans, explaining why he decided to open an Instagram account. "I want to stay connected to you. People have told me that it's helpful." This account has been active since April 2024 but only has one post so far.
Within just a short period, almost 600,000 people are already following the ex-BVB coach, despite him not being known for his social media presence.
Klopp's lone post is a heartfelt compilation of emotional video snippets from his time at Liverpool, including press conferences and Klopp speaking directly into his phone camera.
His initial message to the fans is: "Liverpool fans, we're coming to the end. My full time at Liverpool is about to end." The first clip shows him at his inaugural press conference on October 8, 2015: "It's not as important what people think when you arrive. What matters most is what people say when you're gone."
Klopp (488 games as manager) continues, "I would call it a love affair." He's won the Champions League (2019), the Premier League (2020), the FA Cup (2022), the League Cup twice (2022 and 2024), and the Uefa Super Cup (2020) with Liverpool.
He expresses gratitude for the support he received throughout his time with the team: "This time has been incredible from day one. I've enjoyed every single minute. Thank you deeply for all the support you've given us over the past few years."
He adds, "It always felt like we were writing this story together. And it still feels like that today. It's a great story that we'll cherish in the future."
After taking a year off, Klopp plans to be more active on social media, giving his fans updates on his life.
