The news is concerning Schalke. - Klasnic of Werder shares the final hidden truths
Two decades ago, on the 29th of May, 2004, Werder Bremen emerged victorious in the cup finals. They clinched a remarkable double by triumphing against Alemannia Aachen with a 3-2 win. Ivan Klasnic and Tim Borowski were the heroes of the evening, scoring twice each for Werder.
Twenty-four-year-old Klasnic reminisced about the run-up to the big day, "The tension was palpable all throughout the day. Since we had lost the championship, we were determined to take home not just one trophy but two. We needed to improve. Aachen had previously held their ground like a tough second division team. It's possible that Blanki (Stefan Blank, an ex-Werder player between 2001 to 2003) shared some inside knowledge about our team with his Aachen players."
When asked about his recollection of the post-celebrations, Klasnic replied, "It all started in the studio and continued from there. But to be honest, I don't remember much else. It must have been an unforgettable party."
Klasnic transparently voiced the significance of the double win in his eventful career. "It can't be overemphasized. How often do players win two titles in a year? Those weeks were the pinnacle of my career. And who knows when Werder will lift another trophy?"
The major factor of success, according to Klasnic, was a harmonious team dynamic. "We were a well-oiled machine with no internal conflicts. Klaus Allofs, the recruitment team, and Thomas Schaaf somehow managed to sign the perfect players for our team. We had a fantastic understanding, on and off the field. We all had fun together."
In response to a question regarding the key players of the victory, Klasnic highlighted Baumi (Frank Baumann) and Johan Micoud as standouts, "Baumi was a calm captain, who took charge with confidence and directed the team. Micoud was hands-down the best player I've ever played alongside. He had his flaws, but his grasp of the game was unparalleled. All we had to do was give him the ball, and he'd make it happen."
Klasnic considered Schaaf an instrumental part of their triumph. "There's no denying that. He assembled the team, ensured everything ran smoothly, and held a crucial role in the team's success."
Ailton and Mladen Krstajic's shocking departure to Schalke raised eyebrows during their championship season. He shed light, "It was a shock, to say the least. We had to stay focused and on track. Despite Schalke's interest in other potential recruits, the team's primary aim remained the same - to keep winning."
Reports surfaced that Schalke was keen on acquiring Klasnic as well. "They were going all-out for me, with Rudi Assauer leading the pursuit. But Werder stood steadfast and prevented the plan from materializing."
Klasnic's two former clubs were set to clash in the season ahead. "Not much separates St. Pauli and their young players. However, what St. Pauli needs are experienced players at the first-league level if they want to maintain their status."
As for his beloved Werder Bremen, expectations were high for its season to come, "I was pleasantly surprised by Mitchell Weiser's contract extension. My fervent wish is for Marvin Ducksch to remain a part of the team too. He's absolutely crucial to our team, delivering dangerous standards consistently. We all need to support him and not gripe if he doesn't find the back of the net."
Klasnic's recent health had been a cause for concern. "I unfortunately fell ill and was unable to attend the double celebrations. However, my kidneys are in a perfectly fine state."
